Governance

Governors Rationale

The purpose of governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance. The Governing Body has three core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Crucially, Governors need to use and be familiar with objective data on the performance of pupils, teachers and finances so that they can ask the right questions and ensure resources are allocated to school priorities.

Our Governing Body adopts the Enlighten Learning Trust Open Meetings protocol in accordance with which Part 1 of its meetings will be open to observers.

St Martin's is a member of Enlighten Learning Trust, Multi-Academy Trust. The Trust provides strategic direction and oversees the governance of all the schools within the trust. The Governing Body of St Martin's Schools exercises delegated influence and responsibilities over the performance of the school  as Local Governing Body and Committee of the Trustees.
